Fire and Fireworks in Grand Terrace

Firework sales and use in Grand Terrace have provided funds for a limited number of children to play soccer. This benefit at the risk of harm to person and property. We are thankful that there have been no serious effects to GT citizens as of yet in relation to the sale of fireworks. Do we actually know that fireworks purchased here have not been take and used elsewhere without any harm what so ever?

This town is covered with green after the record rains. Soon that will turn into tinder dry brown. The current city ordinances of a charge for grazing sheep or goats at $5.00 per head per day precludes the use of such natural methods of fire prevention and risk reduction. No where a tractor can reach, fields are plowed into dusty fields that add to the particulate pollution of our town and the valley below.

We must suffer weeks of fireworks, noise, and threat of fire, but we can't have a goat, or a chicken in our yard. We must suffer weeks of fireworks, noise, and threats of fire, but we can't park our motor home on our own property. We must suffer weeks of fireworks, noise, and threat of fire, so that a small number of children can play soccer or baseball. How much does it actually cost for a season of soccer, per player? Who's eye, hand, house, or life must be the sacrificed? Pray for the firemen, and the children, and the child like adults who use or will be victim to the firework sales.

How many sheriff deputies will be available to enforce safe use laws?

How about having a July 4th picnic, and swing dance with a band and raise money through ticket sales, and concession sales? Have the kids sale tickets. This would be more profitable as the cost for operations and supplies could be donated by various business in town.

Drunk Drivers Released In GT

Drunk Drivers Released In GT

Below is an interesting situation. Charged with two counts of DUI the fellow listed here was not taken to jail. He apparently was allowed to continue on either to the next wreck or home where a high risk of domestic violence would ensue. Returning a drunk man home is a disservice to the community and household. It concerns this writer that such leniency will foster conduct of the same ilk or worse.

Backroom Land Deals in Grand Terrace

There is a real need for an additional High School to serve the area of Grand Terrace, Colton, etc.

However, some real questions should be asked as to the site selection. The area under consideration boarders the 215 freeway. There are plans for additional lanes on that freeway.... eventually. What are the soil contaminates from the years of leaded gas being emitted from the cars on the freeway? There are houses and of course Grand Terrace Elementary that have higher lead levels along the freeway. In addition to existing lead contamination, there is the added risk or continued risk of particulate pollution from the cars and trucks which will be using the 215. The power plant that is adjacent to the property being considered is used intermittently and is on line for power backup supply during summers. This plant makes noise, as well as some forms of air pollution.

The property currently owned by the city of GT is perhaps the former metal plating plant, which they administered to death and thus prevented continued use or sale. This is true of the lumber yards also. You may be able to get closer to the truth as to how these transactions came about.

However, I do know that arsenic is used in the plating process in addition to other possible pollutants.

There may be a way to prevent air born pollutants if the buildings are closed, and have back up generators for power outages. However, how are the outdoor facilities going to be sufficiently healthy?

The painful truth is that the Town Center property may be the only "safe" place for the High School, if it is to be built in GT. This would put education and teens in the middle of town. It would not build the retail, sales tax businesses the city is hopping for. Commercial or Industrial... jobs would be better suited use for the land along the freeway, where unified buildings could be built and the air quality could be safe for workers. How many people jog next to a freeway?

Just some thoughts on the site selected for the new school. Also, is the GT RDA going to make a bunch of cash for its purchase of the property in the area, or are they going to donate it? Who will pay for the clean up if needed, and sound walls? Who will be standing out along the fence line catching all the particulate matter wafting over the fence?

Why not put the Public Library along with the High School????

One must wonder if the hight home prices in Grand Terrace is truly all good news?

Realtors like increased fees for sales. True
Property Taxes Increase when homes are sold. True

Negatives:

People who live in Grand Terrace must commute to higher paying jobs in LA or Orange County.

Most families in Grand Terrace have two or more incomes supporting them, and no one is left to care for children, particularly children between the 7 th and 12th grades. (There are no after school programs for this age group in the city.)

To increase the value of the property, home owners have sacrificed their rights to enjoy their property as they may have initially intended. Restrictions on pets, RV Parking, and street parking all have negated the enjoyment of resident's property. This also increased the cost of living in GT for those who have been forced by the city to move their RVs to storage facilities.

The city has written codes so that no small or efficiency homes could be built for those with lower income, or the desire to live more environmentally friendly.

The city has not made any significant effort to encourage job development or a live and work in GT program to reduce the time spent away from family, and community. There is not a grasp of the idea of sustainable development, or the development of a diversified economic and social environment in the city. Economic development based on the retail marketing of items made else where and increased consumerism, and resulting tax revenue is short sighted at best.

What moral right do we in Grand Terrace have to exclude opportunity to enjoy living in Grand Terrace to only those who can afford the high housing prices?

I recall John Boy of the Walton's explaining what a Depression was. The answer was when rich folk have no money they get depressed. The Walton's however were able to fall back on the fact they owned their house, could raise some chickens, goats and a pig or two. We are ill prepared for adversity in GT. We have eliminated our basic economic resources in favor for building more expensive homes. We have debased the basic values of family, community productivity, and economic interdependency within a community.

Is there hope. Yes, but will the folks at City Hall be the problem or the cure? They don't hear the drums approaching.

Good Things at the Meeting

It is great to see that the citizen's vote on having a mayor was supported as being the voice of the population, by Some of the Council. One must question the motives of those wishing the citizens had not made such a change.

If there is a standard definition as to what a mayor does in a city formed such as Grand Terrace is, that should be the type of mayor we start off with. This is the working definition of a mayor. Any changes of that definition would be questionable under the current council and city manager's status with the citizenry.

Limiting or enhancing the function of the mayor should be done after the next election or as part of a wide public vote, if each change is listed independently on the ballot.

Publish on the internet or as an insert the current definition of the mayor job, and as an elected mayor under the standard code, then list possible changes or modifications the citizens may want to consider to put on the ballot. Clearly the current Council Members and City Manager have a vested political interest.

Drive Through This

It would be interesting for the public to know the prior negotiations with the developers, and restaurant owner regarding the drive through as proposed by the planning commission, and apparently approved in some way by the Redevelopment Agency. How this all transpired and the "city's" entanglement in what should have been land purchases and development by private individuals in accordance to unrestrictive or abusive code changes along Barton Rd.

No we citizens don't have the mental capacity to understand such complexities, just ask Lee Ann Garcia..

Will the other restaurants on Barton Road also get the right to improve their service and add a competing drive through service? Justice would indicate they should have the same rights.

Quality of life would demand that the property be restored to a farm house. Perhaps California Walnuts would be a good crop.

City Council Meeting

Well, we could be insulted again with the conversation at the council meeting. Lee Ann Garcia implied that the members of the council held some sort of higher form of intelligence than the ordinary population, and not all of the voters will be able to understand the complexity of governmental structure. Then they all spoke at length about what is a mayor, who could be mayor, and how it would be unfair to a current council member to have to give up their council seat to run.

Here is an idea. Why don't you all resign. So we can start new.

Your conversation suggested that you carve into stone the structure of the mayor's office, and that in the future, the citizens would not or could not make intelligent changes to the governance. Under the current system, what the citizens can't do is affect the actions of the City Manager and the Redevelopment Agency.

Inspite of public requests the council is still holding private negotiations. Hello we are the City, and We are the School's Parents.... should we not know what the negotiations are?

How much practice will it take for you all to speak into the microphone and stop looking at each other. You have directional microphones. Testing Testing..... Figure it out will you please.

Thank you for your service. Please let us start with a clean slate, please resign.

Reflections on the Reflector:

Reflections on the Reflector:

There was finaly a reflector installed at the north island tip at the corner of Grand Terrace Rd and Mt. Vernon Ave. However, if you are on Grand Terrace Rd, there is no reflective tape so it is not much help for those who have been knocking down the prior placed reflectors.

Suggest putting reflective tape on all directional approaches.

Fire at City Hall? Terrorist Threat?

The arrest record shows that there was an arrest made for the charge of terrorist threat and an arson, an arrest for housing for manufacture or distribution of a controlled substance, and weapons charges. It will be interesting to see if there are more details made available from the city.

City Manager's Assigned Action Items

The City Manager has been asked for a presentation of actual drawings of the corner of Grand Terrace Road, and Mt. Vernon the Island, and the driveways and other facilities of the area for the past three meetings of the City Council. The pictures presented last meeting were deceptive from the point of perspective they were taken from, and they did not show possible solutions or impediments to making adjustments to the current lack of design planning.

Will there be a reflective paddle in place before the next meeting? Will there be a light perhaps even a solar light in place showing the edge of the island on both ends? Will there be actual plans, and drawings showing real alternatives not just what the City Manager wants?

Here is a suggestion:

The original intent of not painting two lane stripes south of Barton Road was that the traffic would merge into one single lane in preparation to going down the single lane hill. It would be appropriate that the lane created north of Brentwood be used as a parking lane for the residents up to the point of 35 Ft of the corner of Grand Terrace/Mt Vernon where the right turn lane could be made available for right turns only.

Reduce the speed limit within the city to 35mph maximum. There is no need to rush through the small city, nor to encourage the waste of fuel caused by the "need" to accelerate and decelerate between stop signs and signals that are so close together. The slower speed limit may encourage folks passing through town to either stop and shop, or stay on the freeway.

Comment to the Comment on the Crime Report

Provided to readers of this blog are the postings from the sheriffs Bookings Web page. The information provided is the information displayed from that web site. Effort is made to decode the charges as that information is provided in alpha-numeric code. The commentary for citizen's awareness to crime in Grand Terrace is purposely added as a result of the City Government not alerting its citizens to crimes other than those phoned into the dispatcher. The crimes phoned in are not directly correlated with the arrest record. Thus the need for the full disclosure of all information available in a media available to all citizens of Grand Terrace.

The comment writer suggest that the crime mentioned below did not happen in Grand Terrace, and that our single sheriff's unit just responded to the call. That is interesting, as our single sheriff, was then listed as the arresting agency which will result in the booking fee to be billed to Grand Terrace. If the call or crime did not originate or end in the city of Grand Terrace why is the record so stated? These are all questions that will most likely never be answered because the City Management and City Council don't want the Image of Grand Terrace to be tarnished.

Two Representations Eminent Domain

Steve Berry Assistant of the Grand Terrace City Manager, has been quoted by the Sun Telegram as saying hold out land owners may face the use of Eminent Domain in order to make available the last hold out properties for the Town Center Development.

Tom Schwab the Grand Terrace City Manager said in today's article in the same paper that the city would not force anyone out of their homes.

In several City Council meetings both statements have been made by various persons. The problem for the property owner is that behind closed doors the threat or mention of this option has been made. In addition to the effect of the potential use of eminent domain, the property the city eyes for future development by parties other than the current owner are adversely affected by changes in code requirements, approved city use plans and restrictions of future use. All the changes written to favor the preselected developer, which has not been subjected to even the competitive bid process.

I hope the US SUPREME COURT will protect the citizens and smaller business owners from the tyranny of city councils and developers with large blocks of money.

Perhaps it is time to end the Grand Terrace Redevelopment Agency, and curtail the zealot city management which has reduced Grand Terrace to a fiefdom run by a select few realtors, and developers to their benefit. How many children are using the child care provided by the city. How much does this child care cost? How many home child care services operate in this city? How many children actually benefit from the restricted use of Pico Park or Richard Rollings park and snack bars? These parks are treated by the city and by the little league and soccer league as private use parks rather than public parks. Then ask how many 7th to 12th graders are being served by the community services. Where can they go to spend the hours unsupervised while their parents commute home from great distances?

Those Citizens entertaining or supporting drug use in GT should think about seeing people hurt or killed by the use of drugs, and or driving fleeing the police.

GT EMINENT DOMAIN or ABUSE

Beware of the agents of the City Manager, and the redevelopment agency and presumably the City Council are threatening to use Eminent Domain in the acquisition of property from a land owner for the benefit of a specific developer and development plan.

This is anti-civil rights. What if a "hold out" property owner wanted to develop their own business on their own property which would generate real jobs and sales tax for the city... No the individual's have lost their right to their investment and pursuit of happiness. The city's action is simply vile.

The mention of Eminent Domain as a threat via Steve Berry is a negation tactic of intimidation. The citizens of this city should not allow the bullies of Grand Terrace take over.

Do not do business where these tactics have been used.

This WARNING HAS BEEN REPUBLISHED: To all those wanting to make comments: Please post your comments on the related topic or article.

Full Disclosure Required by City

All 18 Grand Terrace restaurants are required to make a full disclosure of their inspections. They all got A's how great this is. Now how about the City of Grand Terrace working at the same level of disclosure and ending all closed meetings and negotiations including Redevelopment and Planning meetings, and labor contracts and service contract negotiations. Disclosure is healthy for a restaurant, a small business, it is healthy for a City. Only law abiding PRIVATE citizens not public officials, or public employees should enjoy Privacy. The only thing private for a public employee is their social security number, and their "Private" non city involved lives.

Embezzlement /assault More Crime

Members of a community have a responsibility to report crime. It is the courts which determine the validity of the charge. Punishment be it restitution or confinement is not or should not be determined by the victim of the crime. Some have commented that this writer would lock up children in side the home to keep them safe. Safety is not guaranteed in your own home. Knowledge and keen awareness is the most effective safety tool. This community must have knowledge and be kept aware regarding criminal activities in our community. We must actively support, and encourage an environment free of crime. When a crime does occur we must as good citizens report it and as citizens we have a right to expect that each report will result in an appropriate police reaction.

CHS Student Lose Big Time

Yes the Principal has been removed from CHS as the students wanted.
Now the raised expectation of improved attendance, academic proficiency, and decency will be lowered to the previous standard. Longer bathroom breaks will result in loitering and vandalism in the restrooms so that no one will be able to use the facilities.

A man trying to good work has been removed by a mob, some of whom damaged property, lit fires, and disrupted the learning process of 1500 school mates. Justice would include the arrest, or suspension of those who damaged property, started fires, and a day of detention for all students missing call to attendance at the beginning of the ruckus.

PTA members should organize and form a potty patrol, to ensure the proper use and maintenance of restroom facilities. Perhaps an instructional assembly should be held on the topic "Proper Use of the Restroom, Toilet Paper and Proper Flushing".

The school should have a uniform. Then no future administrator would be accused of being arbitrary regarding the dress code enforcement.

Those administrators the students were in support of should still be transferred. Not to transfer them would encourage continued use of walkout, riots, and disorder on campus.

What now: CHS, no dress code, lower attendance, dirty toilets?

If Doc did not care about you he would not have tried to make things better. Don't be fooled by those who like lower standards and requirements. Those who expect less of you are not your true friends, and should not be your teachers or school administrators.

All Future CHS graduates, for the next 4 years will be adversely affected by the walkout. What employers wants to hire a teenager that may have been part of that walkout. Perhaps a student with straight A's, and shows some other aptitude, will find employment. Future employers of CHS students and staff will be suspect them of being part of the walkout, riot, and ruckus for years to come. A few staff and students chose to tarnish the entire school, in order not to be polished and educated. What a Shame.

Drug Arrests Continue in Grand Terrace

Drug arrests continue in our little city. Arrest is the first step in the legal process for the arrestee. However, the community needs to be aware, alerted and informed about the use, availability and consumption of illegal drugs in our community. Knowledge about these arrests should alert parents to potential risks and exposure to our children, and grand children. Knowledge about these arrest should alert anyone that the criminal element that use illegal drugs or those who associate themselves with the activities of drug sales, and use are often associated with violence, theft and other crimes. People using drugs are also a safety risk when they drive cars, or perform any of a number of professions practiced in GT.

Eminent Domain IN GT

There it is spelled correctly, now let's see the city use it properly. Eminent Domain should only be used for public works land needs such as for the building of schools, or roads or other public works. Changing the property codes so that an individual land owner can't enjoy to the fullest the rights to their property and forcing them to sell at a time, for a price or limit the use of the property to the extent it is not fully enjoyed by the owner is not the intended use of eminent domain statutes. The city of Grand Terrace has used a heavy handed approach with many property owners, often threatening the use of condemnation, or eminent domain.

To use this method of land acquisition, and then turn, sell, or lease the property to a development company is in my view conduct without moral standing. The addition of a space for the library is a recent rouse to try to white wash the dirty dealings of the city.

Mr. Schawb could donate his ill gotten home for a library site. The property could be re-zoned for public use. The RDA may even get a grant to do this to him, as they get grants to "DO" other people favors of similar types. There is no doubt the staff could do his job, his salary would be saved, and citizens property rights protected.

To those posting comments: All comments are welcome. This blog will not be edited like the GT Crime Reports, or Public Records of GT. However, comment should be on the topic of GT, News, City, and other related issues.

Response to Comments

Yes, at times my spelling or typing may be less than perfected. However, I never disrupted other's education by spelling poorly. Nor do I think crimes reported would then cause crime to be ended in Grand Terrace.

What I do think is: The Government should make public all public records including meetings with developers, and planners. There is nothing in Government operations that should be considered "Private" other than the social security numbers of employees. I think the City of GT should let the citizens of GT park motor homes on their property. Now if a person parked their motor home on their neighbors yard, that would be another thing.

As for the criminal element in our community, their activities should be known by parents, teachers and all of us wanting to protect ourselves and our property. In addition, the criminals and the non criminal who may be arrested and jailed should want his or her whereabouts to be known. There are political arrests in this country. Not reporting all arrests, bookings, and logged calls promotes an opportunity for people to go missing, crimes under investigated and abuse of power.

Steve Berry Negative Speech Against Citizens

Once again Mr. Steve Berry spoke on the behalf of the City Management (Press Enterprise)and presumably the City Council. He addressed the topic of Senior Housing. It is noted in the article that exclusive contracts have been entered into with a developer, yet the project has not been finalized. These two statements seem to be out of sequence to this reader. However, this may be understood, as we the citizens aren't permitted to attend the illegal closed sessions of the Redevelopment Agency, and the Planning commission, and the other back room meetings where the real decisions are made.

The citizens of Grand Terrace are not against Senior Housing as a private venture, on land that was obtained without coercion, or threat of emanate domain being used. Will the city may the speed limit so that all our citizens could drive LEV's or NEV'S (ROAD GOLF CARTS) so that we may all be encouraged to shop inside the city? It would be hoped that a well planed senior housing complex would accommodate the development of intergenerational social ties. Swing Dancing, Square Dancing, Public Library, Chess Masters, and even dare I say it intergenerational Bridge facilities could enhance the community and the senior's life quality.

At no time should a senior feel pushed into a senior home, or apartment. The city should encourage competitive design, and options and operations of any kind of business. The problem is that the city's record of not being open with it's citizens, and perhaps the fact that the roof in the current senior center seems always to be in need of repair does not bode well for a city operated apartment complex or a complex operated by a city selected or RDA selected developer. If the city wants to release a request for development, for a 20-50 year lease of a piece of city property for the purpose of the above, with specific terms and conditions spelled out for the bidders to consider. If there were a truly competitive and qualitative negotiation there would be less resistance to the city's effort to put senior housing on city owned property.

There is also a problem with only providing lower rental rates to a select age group. Yes seniors have a limited income. Many working in our community also have a limited income and can't afford to live in Grand Terrace. These same people are therefore branded as being part of the undesirables, the high risk, or high maintainance type of people Grand Terrace would not want to provide housing for.

The city must learn to be welcoming to all, without being disparaging to any economic, racial, or age group. This is a city that won't give full detail of the crime rate, yet it will promote broad categorical prejudices against younger, lower income people. It is possible this is not the intent, but their words and works do lead to that conclusion.

CHS Students vs Administration

Baggy Pants and Toilet seats. Now it is clear that the baggy pants are to provide room for adult diapers.

Fact, the toilet to backside ratio may need to be adjusted for the 3,300 students crammed onto a campus. CHS should only house 2000 students.

Fact, students need to be in class. Just listen to the great English grammar used during the protest. "I Ain't never seen no school like this..."

Fact, it is evident that the people transferred should have been transferred. Their supporters did not know how to approach the School Board, PTA or news media to effectively communicate their views.

By the way, Students do not run a school. Tax Payers and Parents Do.

Call out the National Guard so that the students that want to learn can do so without the ruckus of the bare belly, baggy pant, bling bling, maladjusted, malcontents interrupting their educational time.

Photo's and tapes should identify those causing the disturbance and inciting a riot, or impeding the rights to an education should be investigated as a crime.

For those students that were speaking to the news media:

Go to class, show some class, or get out of CHS. The economy needs cheap labor, your current state of education will provide the minimum wage labor force for years to come.

You students are to credit for the NEED for additional structure, rules and dress codes. You are vile, ignorant, self centered, unruly rabble . If you want to dress for success as a prostitute, or a gang banger, you have mastered those skills, get out of school, walk the streets. CHS does not prepare students for those jobs. Let the real students with class go back to class and have the opportunities they deserve.

Colton High School Students

You have shamed the name of your school.

If you speak to the news media... please use better language structure.

If you must wear shirts that show your belly, or pants that are baggy enough to conceal weapons, or your little brother. Find a private school to attend.

Students chanting, that they are in charge of the school, what a joke. You students did not articulate your points of grievance by your collective miss behavior. No you provided evidence that a stricter level of rules of conduct and dress are required to secure the educational opportunity rights of the students which attend CHS for an education.

Go to the mall and strut your stuff. Let the real students have their school back.

For the administrators: Have students detained in the front of the auditorium until proper clothing is brought. If a parent is unable to provide clothing perhaps goodwill, or a second hand store will donate a rack of clothes that can be provided to the students.

Council Reviewed Feb 10th Meeting

City of Grand Terrace:

Effective City Management: City Manager and Staff have not provided up to this date the promised cages to catch feral cats. This week Mr. Schwab once again “promised” and “Directed” that Steve Berry will see to the purchase and lending out of two traps. Mr. Schwab was also queried about his inferring a particular individual or group which have been making independent investigations into the operations of the City were the suspects in the missing city documents caper at the library. Mr. Schwab assured the City Council that the Library was not the repository for records, just a place where copies of documents could be found. Grand Terrace’s Records were in tact. He made no effort to defend or deny or apologize for making the inference that the citizens mentioned in the news paper article mentioned were or were not intentionally identified as suspects of the theft of documents from the library.

Mr. Schwab was brought into awareness that the reflectors on the “Safety Island” on Mt. Vernon were inadequate. Prior discussion of the Council directed the City Manager to place a more ostentatious reflector on the northern point of the island. There was an island related accident just the prior night. The failure to reduce the speed limit to 25mph city wide, extend the double yellow lines or the island far enough south permitted a truck proceeding south bound to turn onto Brentwood much to early, and the north bound traffic, was struck with an injury and property damage being the result.

The striping on the road was again brought up to Mr. Schwab and he acted as if this was new information. The Council members and members of the public had discussed and it was included in the resolution to form a review of the intersection. The current striping of the north bound Mt. Vernon Lanes are so striped as they direct the traffic flow to what was formerly a one lane taper to head on down the hill. These lines have been so designed since the 1970’s at least, perhaps longer. The City Council seems to think that they can pretend that there isn’t a need to have the traffic prepare to condense into a single lane to proceed down the hill. This fiction will continue to promote excessive speed on Mt. Vernon and a lack of appropriate caution in the approach to the intersections of both Mt. Vernon and Brentwood, and Mt. Vernon and Grand Terrace Rd.

The real and safe solutions are:

1: Put Solar Powered Lighting on the island. Glue the solar lights down with Bluie Glue that the Woman’s Club purchased.

2: Remove the Island and or Reduce the in city speed limit to 25mph. Curb, Trees, Boulders, oh are all safety items where the speed limit is posted at 40mph.

3: Return to a single lane of traffic on Mt. Vernon north of Brentwood, with a left and right turn lane option closer to the intersection at Grand Terrace Rd. Leaving a MARKED Parking Lane with DOUBLE STRIPPED LINES for the residents on Mt. Vernon to use for parking and as a safe in and out buffer for their driveways. Each Council Member and Staff Member should have to park their car in the affected driveways and try to pull out into traffic, and return during the high traffic hours. This “Improvement” even with a wider drive way is not sufficient, or safe. Return, and retain a real parking and maneuvering lane for these homeowners. This is for their safety and the safety of the Mt. Vernon Drivers.

Other City Observations:

The city continues to under report crimes. I wonder if the Sheriff or the probation department has been alerted to Mr. Hilkey’s observation that 2 of the 9 sex offenders are not registered properly. Why is it that the crime and arrest of individuals for other cities is available and it is not for Grand Terrace. Post all Calls, the Block, all arrests, and let the criminal activity be known. Perhaps shame may improve the situation.

The City’s insistence that a property owner provide curb, street lighting improvements in order to sub divide before the development of the property is a further example of how a city controls the freedom of it’s citizens property rights.

The Foundation of Grand Terrace should purchase this property, place orange trees goats and a barn for 4H and perhaps their dog park at this wonderful last historical piece of property. The Grand Terrace Historical Society needs to rename it’s self as there is almost no History in Grand Terrace that has been retained. The Grand Terrace Foundation group, well the foundation has been broken and hauled away. Where is there a farm, orange, or walnut, where are the animals, pigs, goats, chickens sheep?

Empty fields, and Blue Mt, are disked and made into dust pits where sheep could graze.

The Re Development Agency…. A government agency met in private once again… this is in violation of the sunshine laws. It is time for this Agency to disband.

The Spring Motor Cycle at Rollings Park is in need of attention. There is too much play at the base anchor and spring connections. This will lead to a break and possible injury to a child.

GT Housing for Seniors Only

GT Housing for Rich and seniors

Often heard are disparaging remarks of “Apartment Dwellers” when a housing development is brought to the City Council. “These units are not for rent”, is spoken in hushed tones with an underlying acquisition and assumptions being subtly inferred. Apartment dwellers bring crime to Grand Terrace. There is no need to provide affordable housing for persons other than seniors in Grand Terrace, low rents attract people with low incomes, and low income people well, “they” are criminal element we just don’t want in our community. This is a form of elitism that is prejudicial and not conducive to a vibrant and self sufficient community. All wage or economic strata should have a welcome place in Grand Terrace. People serving Coffee at Star Bucks, or bagging groceries, should be able to rent, or yes even purchase a modest apartment, home or condominium right here in Grand Terrace.

A property owner should be able to develop his property for modest income folks wanting a garden apartment, or cottage house. Folks should be able to raise a chicken in their yards. No this city wants ever increasing housing price, bigger and bigger houses or condominiums. Who do you suppose benefits the most from increased property taxes, and the sales tax on the sale of a home? We can’t hope to have a community, with all adults commuting out of the community to afford to pay their rent/ or house payment. We need Jobs right here in Grand Terrace that will afford People of Grand Terrace to LIVE and work IN Grand Terrace. Yes, family farms, and family businesses and light industry. Oh I forget, we don’t want farming in our city….

We are going,,, the Redevelopment Agency is going to spend 14 Million dollars it raised by incurring a debt… that a debt the city co-signed on… to build apartments for seniors. Now who do you think will profit from removing seniors from their homes, Selling those homes, having those homes re-assessed at a higher property tax value? Not the senior who will most likely be pestered by code enforcement or threats of emanate domain being invoked to force the sale of their property… Beware, least the next to be persecuted be you or yours.

Hidden Arrest and Crime Reports in Grand Terrace

The City Manager, and City Council, and the Power Brokers in Grand Terrace once again limit the available data regarding Crime and Arrests in Grand Terrace claiming that making public records public is somehow not in the public interest. This is why only a summary of crimes and this month arrests is made available to the Blue Mountain Outlook news paper. The Grandterracenews.blogspot makes the arrest information available to all news media, City Council Members, the City Manager and yet they suggest that the Public should somehow be protected by this information.

The day they arrest you and not make your name know… is the very day you should worry.

Supreme Court Hears GT Like Case

The Supreme Court of the USA is going to hear a case regarding redevelopment Agencies/ and or / Cities using Emanate Domain to force people off their property to build a mall, or shopping center. Is this why the Town Center project included a Public Library in it's plan? Home.. Well, they already have sufficient land for a Public Library they don't need more.

The Institute for Justice has filed suit for homeowners with problems like this, and are actively trying to stop this tyranny.

Good luck fellow homeowners, business owners, property owners of Grand Terrace.

No Free Enterprize / No More Booze Stores

Let's watch and see if the City Council let's Savon Market obtain a Liquor License for the new market we hear is coming to town. How many Liquor Licenses are planed for the Town Center... Yet existing businesses are impeded in expanding their offerings.

Open for bidding. The concession stand bidding limitations prohibit any new innovative use for the facilities that may be a benefit to the community. How about a concession stand operation that is also an after school teen mentoring operation. Limiting the concession on weekdays to fresh fruit, and iced tea, and home work help, or a place to have a chess club. No the city limits the options to only those clubs or non profits that have existed for 5 years in the city. OK, now we know who is on that short list. The result is that you haven't opened the bidding, you have just made an announcement that your entering into a new contract with the same old favorites.

When a bid for a concession stand at Calico Ghost Town is made, it is an open bidding contest. Think about it.

Drugs For Sale Crime Report GT

January 2005
Booking Report Grand Terrace:
The booking listing is compiled from the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Booking Log Web page using a cut and paste. The nature of the charge is decoded via a google search and is highlighted in bold italicized font; this is not to be assumed to be a full and complete description of the charges. This may not be a complete listing. 16 These arrests will not show up on the “Reported Crime List” provided by the Grand Terrace City Manager, Mr. Tom Schwab. Mr. Schwab only reports the crimes that are called in to the dispatch office. These crimes are often not resolved, or are not life threatening, such as auto theft, vandalism and burglary. The crime data has been repeatedly requested by citizens at council meetings and the City Manager, continues to edit the information so that the community looks like it has less crime than it does. (15)
