From the Email Inbox: HS3 Construction

The statements made by the CJUSD that the High School will be built in Grand Terrace and ready for students in 2011 fell a bit short of being reassuring.

Let us Review.

Portions of the land is listed for Sale on Loopnet. com
AES Power Plant is still Proposed adjacent to the property
Rail Road is near the School Site
Riverside County side is Manufacturing and Light Industrial Use
Inland Lumber will remain till 2008

The City wants to Move Grand Terrace Elementary School and "Redevelop" that property into Commercial Retail, however has not provided the public with land for a Replacement of the School Property and School Buildings as part of the Developer's Cost of Development. No some how the Citizens and Taxpayers are supposed to pay for the "Redevelopment" and New Grand Terrace Elementary School at some site yet to be determined.

Well, we can be assured that a High School #3 will be built. However, that it will be on the location where the Sign is Located is not quite so Carved in Stone.

Yes, money has been spent. This should only be a fact that money has been spent, not that it is a guarantee that the site will be used to build a high school. Recall the problems LAUSD had in locating a site for Belmont High School. Construction started and stoped, eventually the site had to be changed. Money had been spent in a big way, the original site was used for Non School District Offices.

It would be prudent for the School District to look at other land sites. The problems they have in Grand Terrace in building the school are only the beginning.

Grand Terrace being a One Officer Town is also a problem for the safety and operations of a School the size proposed. Unless we begin contracting with Colton Police and not the County Sheriff for our Law Enforcement the School District may view the lack of Police as a reason to not build in Grand Terrace. Quite frankly our current law enforcement staff can not handle a Friday Night in town now, let alone a Foot Ball Friday.
