From the Email InBox:
On the 17th of January, the City of G.T. PlanningCommission is again going to hear about a proposed newordinace updating or amending the Radar Antenna issuefor HAM operators. Let the readers know to attend, unless they like thesee a forest of them in their neighborhood.
From Gramps:
Well, let me see... a Radio Tower... is for some not desired... yet folks on Brentwood are expected to Like the City's Original Proposal of abutting 3 story apartments in their backyard? Hmmm.
Well, we have wonderful high voltage towers along one of the the entrance way to the city is the city going to say these must go because they are "Ugly"? Hmm...
We have seen Colton Planning issue a building permit for a windmill in Reche Canyon only to have that reversed because a neighbor said it was an "Eye-sore". The Windmill was removed.
Where am I going with this? Well at one time it was a status symbol for some to have a washing machine on the front porch. Windmills in Norway are part of the landscape that draws tourists. The City of GT has Cell Phone Towers that look like "Palm Trees", Yet the City regulates the Placement of Clotheslines... ( You remember... the old energy efficient way to dry your laundry).
What a person does or has on their property should be their business and their idea of Ugly or not Ugly. IF your neighbor has a device or item you don't like looking at TURN YOUR HEAD. In the Bible they go a bit farther, "If thine eye offends thee, PLUCK IT OUT". I hope you don't do that but I think you understand my opinion.
Gramps says, Let folks do on their property what they want as long as it is legal under the USCode and the California Code. We don't need no stinking City of Grand Terrace to rule over us more than the Federal and State Government Does.
We became a City not to have more regulation, but to remain "Like County" and not be Annexed into Colton. We only wanted basic services, not REGULATION BY THE CITY REALTOR/DEVELOPERS.
So by all means go to the Planning Commission. Let them know what you want for YOUR Property, but don't encourage them to REGULATE MINE.
OH, and I do believe in the Citizens Regulating Government... and so I do agree with the Citizens being Party to all aspects of the building of the Senior Apartments, including placement and design. THIS IS A PUBLIC DEVELOPMENT,,, not a Private Development.
