GRAND TERRACE - The city is looking to provide a shot in the arm to residents without health insurance.
Officials are preparing to hand out free discount cards to offset the high cost of prescription drugs.
The program, a partnership with the National League of Cities, is expected to be approved by the City Council tonight.
It is available at no cost to Grand Terrace because the city is a member of the league, an organization that represents municipal governments throughout the United States.
The cards are good for 20 percent off prescription medication purchased at CVS Pharmacy at Mount Vernon Avenue and Barton Road, along with all other CVS locations nationwide.
"In this tough economy, I think a 20 percent savings is a nice benefit," Councilwoman Lee Ann Garcia said.
Grand Terrace residents who are uninsured or have prescriptions not covered by insurance can qualify for the program, which is available regardless of age or income. There is no enrollment or membership fee.
"People may be out of a job or laid off and have lost their health benefits," said acting City Manager Steve Berry. "This is something the city is trying to do to help them."
Berry said residents can pick up the cards at City Hall or sign up for the program on the city's Web site, http://www.cityofgrandterrace.org/.

Gramps Adds. Take the Card but don't let the offer BUT be aware that this is an Public Relations Effort by League of California Cities the same organization that Promotes the use of Eminent Domain to transfer Private Property to Private Developers using Redevelopment Agencies of the City. The City of Grand Terrace and the Redevelopment Agency of Grand Terrace used threats of Eminent Domain to remove or force the sale of the Property on Barton Road to Doug Jacobson as the exclusive buyer. So use the Discount, but do not let your guard down.
This orgaization also promoted the Go into Debt, and Increase Housing Prices that helped bring us to the Economic Situation we are now all impacted by.
Also remember that The City of Grand Terrace Pays for the City Council to have Medical Insurance, and IF you need insurance perhaps you may think of running for City Council.

Gramps ADDS:
TapouT: Promotes a sport that is FULL CONTACT MARTIAL ARTS or as Sen. John McCain Called it Human Cock Fights. The addition of a Nutrition Product Line will be a natural addition to their product line. KNOW THIS... the products are nothing more than LEGAL Steroids to boost the strength of the fighters, not to promote HEALTH. This is not a business model that Grand Terrace should be overly boastful about. It is on the edge of a anti social business that unfortunately will attract Young Men and Teens to increase violent behavior which will not be limited to the fight ring. This is a warning.... I hope I am wrong on this one... but Caution is Advised.
