The Citizens who have Served Notice of Recall to the Mayor of Colton have come to the conclusion that allowing the Mayor of Colton to continue to end of her term would be detrimental to the City and Citizens of Colton. The Mayor's first response to the Recall Notice, "I must be doing something right".
Colton's Mayor and City Council have:
Increased Department Head and City Manager's Pay and not increased services to Citizens and local Business.
Initiated the use of Eminent Domain on "Commercial Property" and began construction while there was still pending court cases pending.
Frustrated and possibly lost the Regional Park on the Santa Anna River. This would have benefited Grand Terrace and South Colton area greatly.
Spent Grant Money to build a Bike Path for the 7 registered bike riders of Colton. When, the Money could have been better used either by other communities, or in other places. Just because they can get a Grant to do something, does not mean it is wise to use available funds. Perhaps leaving the money in the money pool would have been the better judgement for the City of Colton, and the tax payers who pay, federal and state taxes that funded that Fund. Bottom line, the grabbing of grants just because you can, not because there is a real need is a flawed management policy.
What the Mayor of Colton and the City Manager of Colton are doing is deepening the Debt Obligations of Colton, patterning the Financial Management after the City of Fontan that has a debt 2nd only to the City of Los Angeles. The inbreeding between Fontana and Colton's Management is a serious detriment to the working class citizens of Colton.
Colton had an advantage over Grand Terrace. One of those advantages was employment opportunities for its citizens and homes that were affordable in relationship to those jobs available in the local economy. Colton is or was a Workers Town. To force a New Port Beach Makeover in an effort to make housing unattainable to the Workers in town is an error in the Social Sustainability of a Community. A Large Civic Debt is not a Good Thing... A large Personal Debt is not a Good Thing. For Civic Leaders be they on a City Council, Mayor, City Manager, or Redevelopment Agency Member to push Debt as a Good Thing is or should be as criminal as the Drug Dealer selling on the street corner.
Fontana Management is spilling over into Colton... Colton has an impact on Grand Terrace.
How will Grand Terrace respond? Is it time to get our government in check, and get away from this Debt is Good mentality in Grand Terrace. (OF COURSE, first you have to get GT City Council and Redevelopment Agency to accept that a BOND is a DEBT, and not just an "Asset". This "Asset" Manager Schwab is so proud at running up is also a LIABILITY DEBT that has to be paid back with Interest. Other Grandiose Plans and actions by the GT City Council, and Redevelopment Agency, and City Manager/Redevelopment Director Mr. Schwab, are as troubling.
Is this the "Freedom" and "Government" we the People want to perpetuate in our community?
