Description of 2007 Lawn Mower Exchange Program

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) is offering AQMD residents an opportunity to help clean the air by exchanging an old, working gasoline-powered lawn mower and purchasing a new Neuton™ 24 volt cordless rechargeable electric mower for only $100 (sales tax included). A total of 4,000 mowers will be available. Exchange events will be conducted at seven locations throughout the AQMD's 4-county jurisdiction. You must pre- register to reserve a mower. Registration begins March 20, 2007.

Gramps Here is a way we can help our air and noise pollution.

Even IF you use a yard service, you may have a lawn mower to exchange, then
have your yard service use your electric mower... which will cost 10 cents per
use to charge... and use for an hour. You may want to look the additional
items available to connect to the lawn mower, and if you can afford it buy
yourself a full price unit and leave the 4000 for those folks who may find the
cost stopping them from making a change.

Of course these are NOT for Commercial USE... so you will have to provide
your Gardener with the Equipment for Your Yard, but here is a way to do
it.

Mow Down Pollution Lawnmower Exchange
Program Guidelines

1.) Only residents living within the South Coast AQMD jurisdiction are eligible.
The lawnmower exchange opportunity if available only to residents living within the AQMD’s jurisdiction, which includes all of Orange County , and the non-desert portions of Los Angeles , Riverside , and San Bernardino Counties . At the lawnmower exchange event, you will be asked to show proof of residence (driver’s license, utility bill, etc.) showing your current address.

2.) Pre-registration is required to exchange your lawnmower.
Unlike previous years, in order to be eligible to buy a new, cordless electric lawnmower for $100 under this year’s program, you must pre-register on the AQMD web site (www.aqmd.gov), or by calling our toll-free phone number (888) 425-6247. When you pre-register, you will be given a confirmation number, and a ½-hour time slot during which to come to the exchange site of your choice. In 2005, there will be ten sites and dates at which the lawnmower exchange will occur. Pre-registration is first come, first served.

3.) Limit of one mower per residence.

4.) Your old gasoline mower must be in operating condition to qualify for the trade-in.

The purpose of the program is to eliminate the emissions caused by old gasoline-powered mowers that would otherwise continue to be used.

5.) What happens if you don’t appear at the exchange site during your pre-registered time slot?

Your confirmation guaranteeing you a mower is only good for the site and date you selected. We encourage you to arrive at the exchange site during your scheduled ½ hour time slot – not earlier and not later – to reduce traffic backups at the site. After 12 noon on that date, any unclaimed mowers will be sold to people who registered to be on the waiting list and are waiting at the site.
