City of Grand Terrace was amongst the cities featured in today’s news paper insert. Some interesting statements by Assistant City Manager Steve Berry and City Manager Tom Schwab. The Pocket Park on Mt. Vernon and De Berry will have a sculpture replication of Blue Mt. The city hopes to bring “Tourists” to Grand Terrace along the commercial and Michigan St. as the Business District fills in.
The town of Mayberry was not exactly a Tourist Destination, and to have both references as being how the city manager and assistant manager think of Grand Terrace demonstrates a basic conflict that can’t be resolved while maintaining both images. Mayberry was a 2 cop town with a jail. Mayberry had a regular town drunk, Otis who would turn himself in. We have a 1 cop town who takes hours out of town to book a criminal. Crimes range from Breaking and Entry, Auto Theft, DUI, Drug Violations, Battery not to mention traffic violations. None of these violators show up and say book me for the night.
Grand Terrace is not Mayberry, to promote or live in this false fiction is misleading to current residents and potential visitors and investors. This fiction allows shoddy work by the City Manager and Planning Department, and the City Council as they pretend that this is Mayberry the reality is this is the Real World of Grand Terrace.
Mayberry had a Community Band.
Mayberry had an active Community including Town Meetings on Important Issues and Concerns.

Does anyone remember the episode where the city didn't have a problem with a power plant being built next to a high school?
Or the one where the city was going to use eminent domain so they could build a shopping center?
