One man died and a 16-year-old boy was critically burned in a fiery three-vehicle crash in Reche Canyon between Moreno Valley and Loma Linda, authorities said today.

The collision involved three vehicles and it occurred just before 7 p.m. Wednesday on Reche Vista Drive near Reche Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol Officer M. Sweet said in a report.

A 1995 Honda Civic crossed over double yellow lines in the center of the road and into the path of oncoming traffic, and struck a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup head-on, Sweet said.

The Civic immediately caught fire and the driver of the Civic died at the scene, according to the CHP and the Riverside County coroner.

Another occupant of the Civic sustained third-degree burns, according to the CHP. He was flown by helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, Sweet said.

A 55-year-old woman who was driving the Ranger pickup was hospitalized in Moreno Valley with leg and back fractures, Sweet said.

Multiple Cal Fire engine and ambulance crews responded, said Riverside County Cal Fire Capt. Richard Tovar.

Reche Canyon is a popular rural shortcut between Moreno Valley and towns to the north in San Bernardino County, including Colton, Grand Terrace and Loma Linda.

Gramps Adds:

Slow down and enjoy the drive folks, the above was not an accident for one of the vehicles. It was a event choreographed by driver in the Honda who knowingly were driving wrong. Humans are supposed to be smarter than that. Drive at or below the speed limits and always at a safe speed as long as it is at or below the speed limit and you will most likely get from point A to B in your vehicle.

Slow Down you appreciate more what you see if it isn't all a blur going by.
