Thanks for the Rain: But Remember It Is Always Fire Season

Brush and Grass Fire in Reche Canyon Area burns 125 acres

The fire in Reche Canyon started on the San Bernardino side of the canyon and burned all the way into the Riverside County area covering about 125 acres. It briefly put homes in danger of being burnt but thanks to the skilled firefighters no homes were lost.

Our own fire truck and oncall firemen in Grand Terrace responded to the blase. Thankfully no one was harmed in the battle to save homes and lives. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The fire started at about 2:00 pm and was fully contained by 8:00 pm. We are thankful for overnight and morning rains. We must remember that some of the worst fires come during the winter months when our air is often dryer than it is during the summer. In fact we have a Year Round Fire Season, with some days and weeks being more risk than others.

The cost of battling the fire will be high, as thirty engine companies from several areas and six water-dropping aircraft were required to fight it and protect the homes, people and animals.

If that wasn't enough 40 acres burned near Highway 18 according to the US Forest Service. This fire was battled without injury to people or homes.

In all your going and coming be fire thoughtful. Have a goal to minimize the risk of starting a fire, and a plan if one should happen.
