GT NEEDS: Redirection of Enforcement Priorities

The crime of a disabled vehicle, or weeds in a yard, or a code violation not reported by a renter, who really cares? It is apparent that the city has in mind to increase its operating funds, and increasing the harassment of it's citizens some of whom are less persnickety about their property than others. We should not allow the City or well meaning neighbors to remove a home owner, or renter's right to the full use and enjoyment of their property. Yes, this would include an RV in the front yard, a small goat or chickens or any other San Bernardino County Code that was in place when GT became a City. The reason GT became a city was to preserve the "County, Country Atmosphere" and not become a city like Colton.

Now, we are more interested in being more like Laguna Beach than County, Country Living. Hats off to Norco, they seem to have it right.

If the GT City Manager is looking for a way to clean up the City, how about aggressive enforcement of the Drug Laws, and pass an ordinance that would include the forfeiture of property even rental property if drugs are being sold, from a car, home, or rental unit. Place the landlords on notice that if they rent to a drug dealer, or drug user twice within two years they will forfeit the ownership of their rental property. Cars used for transporting drugs should be impounded and ownership ceased immediately upon arrest for both drugs and drunk driving within the city.

Now that would make GT a safer and nicer place for all the citizens. Perhaps the City of Colton could provide officers for Grand Terrace Police Enforcement at a more effective cost vs service rate for real crimes not the persnickety offences which tread on the rights of property owners not breaking the LAWS of the County, State, or Country. This option would seem to be more reasonable as Colton and GT share a School District, that while our students are in Colton they are protected by Colton Officers.
