If one accepts the eventuality of the building of the Town Center Development one must ask what stores are going to go into the new center.
Offered up as examples by City Manager Tom Schwab are: A larger Stater Brother's Market, a larger Miguel's restaurant, a Larger Public Library.
Now these aren't "New" businesses, which will bring additional revenue to the city. These are just relocations within the city. We can't really consume more food can we? Library's are great, but they don't raise sales tax or employment directly. Migues's yes there may be some transient business captured as the Barton Road Freeway Access may increase sales, and Drive Through Sales are taxed.
What is the back fill plan. Who or what will go into the currently existing buildings? Is there a plan. Who will rent the old Miguel's. Who will rent the old Stater's, Who will occupy the old Library Space at the City Center Building? Now that would not be a problem for the city to solve if the city wasn't directly involved in the property manipulations.
