Monday was the last meeting of the Traffic Committee. The function was to prioritize projects that were already cast in stone. The official members list is heavy with citizens that believe the city can do no wrong. Our actual street improvements will depend on how aggressively Councilwoman Cortes fights for Grand Terrace as our SANBAG Representative. The funds are from SANBAG for the major repairs.
The Committee was able to chose between speed bumps and did eliminate some of them. A full summary of the list should be available soon. This is Grand Terrace and we have no money and the City council and Staff have a tendency to waive fees or disregard the need for traffic studies and assess impact fees. So Traffic will remain a problem. We were in affect powerless, as a Committee or as Citizens. The City Manager and Council are not going to give the decision making power to anyone but themselves. When Larkin left, Brian Phelps of the Planning Commission was elected Chairman.
We have seen the Staff Overide Committee Recommendations and Direct the Council. We are Nearly 6 months past July 4th and there has not been a review of the LAST YEARS POLICY on Fireworks... Anyone Forget, the Majority of Citizens had said no fireworks.... PLEASE, and then if you must only IN PARKS, but the STAFF said it was too dangerouse for Parks, but encouraged the sale and unrestricted use of "Safe and Sane" in the entire town. Within a few days we had a Fire on Blue MT.... apparently started by fireworks...
Hats off to the Citizens who try to serve on Committiees. The more there are the better... Not that there would be direct impact but there would be better information available to the citizens at large.
