Doug Wilson

Dear Mayoral Candidate/Planning Commissioner Doug Wilson:

In this weeks Grand Terrace City Newspaper, you criticize me as a candidate for city council for asking for more time to review the Town Square Development.

You used the tactics used on Ms. Sherrod, the USDA. employee whose remarks and video were cut and paste to depict a picture that is not truthful.

I want to clearly state that the Planning Staff have a responsibility to clearly define what projects are being considered and how they are being phased in. At your last meeting you considered the Town Square EIR/Tentative map and Architectural Design. The item was described as only Town Square in its’ entirety. No discussion regarding a five-year phase-in took place.

There was no delineation of the “carve out,” by Stater Bros, Market from the Jacobsen Holdings Plan that has been in discussion for 5 years. The Stater Bros. plan as a stand alone project have not been discussed for five years.

This carve out—meaning Stater Bros, Market will buy 8-1/2 acres from Jacobsen and build their own store— changes whom the City of Grand Terrace is now negotiating economic incentives via the Redevelopment Agency for this 8-1/2 acre development.

Chairman Wilson, you should not have—as a declared candidate for mayor- continued on in the capacity of a Grand Terrace City Newspaper, "community writer." You identify yourself in the third person. Again, you are a declared candidate for Mayor and as such you should have left the covering of news to independent news writers.

The public has a right to ask for a little more time to see what those incentives are, discuss them and utilize such in the deliberations of approving the Town Square Development. You saw fit not to support that and to criticize me for supporting more deliberation.

Lastly, in your declaration as a candidate for mayor, in this same newspaper define yourself as a “special envoy” of the Lion’s Club to the City. Mr. Wilson, the Lion’s Club and the City of Grand Terrace would have to be foreign entities to have a "special envoy." Or at the very least the Lion’s Club would have to qualify as a government. Only two governments can have a special envoy. I hope you do not view your club as a government.

Sincerely, Sylvia Robles

Dear Gramps:

Doug Wilson's Candidates Statement published in the Grand Terrace City News made me laugh. Anyone who has attended or tried to attend a Planning Commission Meeting will appreciate the many things that were just so false they have to make you laugh.

The Planning Commission limits peoples speaking to 3 minutes when they are bringing concerns to the attention to the Planning Commission. This is often insufficient time to explain the details of an objection to a proposal or plan. Mr Wilson often cuts people off from speaking on the issues on the agenda. He has a narrow view of the importance of the public input to the Planning Commission and no way has he demonstrated he has been looking out for the public in the conduct of that position which he gained during the Schwab/Berry Administration.

He also has been part of the reason meetings have been canceled so his statement of his availability to serve on the City Council should also be questioned. However, his availability may improve because he would be getting paid to be on the city council and be in attendance at the meetings.

Nope you are not good at listening. You would have heard the problems with the Cement Manufacturing along the river, You would have heard the problems with the OAC. You would have heard the problems with the Senior Housing and you would have encouraged mitigation not litigation that Schwab so much prefers.

Mr. Wilson you have the education to be on the Planning Commission, you have not shown the use of that education to be to the advantage of the Citizens of Grand Terrace. You should not be put into the position of City Council Member as a servant of Schwab and his chosen Developers. In addition: We need to UNDO some of the past not just let it go. Your attitude on the past ills of the Schwab/Berry Administration will only make things worse for the Citizens of GT.
