From the Email Inbox: Fireworks

Dear Paw:

I have been reading your blog for a few weeks and think it's a great forum for people of Grand Terrace. One of my biggest concerns are the fireworks that are allowed to be sold and used in our city.

Unless I am not understanding what was printed in the newspaper -- fireworks will be sold from June 28 thru July 4 from 12 pm to 9 pm -- and can be used during those time periods.

It's bad enough to have to tranqualize your pets on one day, but what are we supposed to do for a whole week?

Last year our one police officer and fire department did not handle the 4th of July very well. I saw a firetruck drive right by my neighbors house -- he put on a show to rival the one in Redlands. They could not have missed it, but they ignored it. These were professional type fireworks that were shot off in a neighborhood.

I tried calling the sheriff's department several times over a 2 hour period, but could not get through. The neighbor has done this for 4 or 5 years and it grows every year -- every year it's the same story, you can not get through to the Sheriff's Department.

Welcome new reader.

Yes FIREWORKS are a real concern to many of the citizens. I think we need to become a touch more proactive. If you call in a report to the sheriff please email the blog and tell us when the call was made and when the sheriff arrived at the spot.

If you have a digital camera take a photo of the crimes and fires you see, and send them to the blog we'll post them. Perhaps photo evidence can be sufficient to educate the council members regarding the real situation of the terror and risk that fireworks bring to town.

I am happy to post pictures and short clips of news from GT any time.
