Grand Terrace

His run is over
*
On May 20, Grand Terrace City Councilwoman Bea Cortes held an open "Meet the Candidates" reception for Bill Postmus. City voters received invitations.
*
Not surprisingly, no one showed up other than the couple who helped set up the reception. Asking Cortes to host a Meet the Candidates reception is like asking a dog catcher to perform surgery on you. Postmus' popularity has taken a downward spiral, and in his desperate attempt to win over voters, he made a fatal move: He depended on Cortes' name recognition to gain favor in Grand Terrace, Colton and surrounding cities.
*
Postmus and his campaign managers have failed to do their homework on the 65-year-old Cortes. She has the name recognition all right. As a matter of fact, she is right up there in the Grand Terrace Hall of Shame, along with the first director of First 5, Don Larkin, and Matt Brown, Supervisor Paul Biane's chief of staff. We all remember the fiasco created when Biane tried to install Brown's wife as director of First 5.
*
Cortes' own Hall of Shame goes back decades. She was fired from the well-respected state Sen. Nell Soto's office, and also fired from Assemblywoman Gloria Negrete McLeod's. No self-respecting Republican wants their name to be associated with hers.
*
The only reason she is still around is because Republican Brown went to the curb and took her under his wing birds of a feather fly together. In fact, Brown invited her to be a member of the Republican Central Committee. Democrats have not stopped laughing yet.
*
Postmus has shown very poor judgment and lack of research in associating his name with the likes of Cortes. We've seen the rise of a promising young man in Postmus and now we are all witnessing his fall. He has been caught in the very thing he set out to abolish corruption. His boat is leaking, and he is going down by way of his own arrogance, sense of entitlement and lack of respect for other professionals.
*
His campaigning never gained momentum, nor did he even provide voters with a vision or direction for the office he is seeking. His work for the voter-taxpayer is over. We have nothing to gain in keeping him around.
