From the Email Inbox: Fire and the City Manager

Dear Gramps:

How many injured firefighters or burned down homes does it take to support one soccer player that lives where the income is higher than most. There has to be a better way than to put people's homes at risk for a small group. Maybe we could use part of the 5 million reserve or some of the RDA Funds. If RDA can make $7500 a month payments on a library I'm sure the City can use some of it's mystical bookkeeping ways and find a way to fund the soccer league. According to the City Manager we're in the black and so is Blue Mountain.

Gramps Answers:

Well the mystical bookkeeping of the City Manager is not the answer. Youth Activities require Real Money. The Reserve is a Myth... so it can't be used for a Real Activity.

However:
Yes, there must be a better way. Here is a constructive IDEA are you ready, here is a Suggestion, an IDEA, an ALTERNATIVE make all fireworks illegal in GT. AND enforce the LAW.

The Money Collected by the Effort of City Employees for GT Days could be collected to support Youth Activities rather than a ONE DAY EVENT. Donations are Donations, HOW the City chooses to spend it's Employees Time in Collecting Donations, and Hosting a One Day Party, and Spending those Donations can BE CHANGED. GT DAYS can be terminated as an expensive event and those efforts can be used to solicit funds for Youth Activities and Sports.

THAT IS A SUGGESTION, and IDEA, a RECOMMENDATION. Just in case a reader didn't know that the above is not just critiquing or an opinion.

Gramps.
