On the other hand this is how Doug Wilson represents him self in the Press.. read it on line follow the link...

Planning Commission Chairman Doug Wilson, another mayoral candidate, said the city deserves a full-time mayor with deep local understanding.

"I don't want to dismantle the operation, I don't want to rebuild, I want to build on what's good," said Wilson, who has been involved in the construction business for 40 years.

Wilson said the transparency issue was overblown, as City Council and Planning Commission minutes are available online. He said he encourages people to speak at Planning Commission meetings and often waives time limits.

Doug Wilson is supposedly trained in construction and development. What in that training suggests that you should build new construction on top of a bad foundation? Mr. Wilson the foundation needs to be repaired, and sometimes that means portions if not all of it replaced. Often Mr. Wilson the foundation is the only problem, and the things like the Citizens who Volunteer, some of the city staff, and programs don't have to change at all. As a matter of fact some of these could use only a little paint and Spackle.

Mr. Wilson suggestion that the Planning Commission and city is sufficiently transparent because agendas and minutes are on line for the public to read. The problem here Mr. Wilson is that the Agenda for the Planning Commission does not include the entire packet of information to be reviewed. In addition the Planning Commission has a habit of frustrating both the applicant and the public by canceling meetings or postponing them. This does not encourage public participation in the process.

Mr. Wilson's Planning Commission has brought: The Outdoor Adventure Center, Manhole Cover, Town Center Plan 1 to 10000000(slight exaggeration), and the Senior Housing and Senior Center without a commercial kitchen specified in the detailed plans. He and Darcy McNaboe should retire from the Planning Commission, but not be elevated to the position of Mayor and City Council in order to make that happen. They were supposed to guide and advise the City Council, and quite frankly their advise has been significantly flawed to the point of hurting Grand Terrace's business growth.
