Grandpa:
The night Manhole Covers was heard I was stuck on the 10 freeway for 12 hours with thousands of others due to an officer-involved shooting.
The Planning Commission is not empowered to review plans in relation to building code or health code violations. The City contracts with outside design professionals such as architects and engineers to conduct such a review on their behalf. Oftimes the Planning Commission does not even see full architectural sets because they are not required at that point in the process. The Planning Commission is authorized to review documents in relation to the General Plan and Zoning Codes only. Some consideration is given to the aesthetics of the neighborhood. Whether or not a kitchen is suititable for commercial use would not be an item the Planning Commission is authorized to address. Until the City Council authorizes otherwise, that is the limit. I don't understand your questions about the Outdoor Adventure Center or a street cutting through the high school. BTW - You know who I am. Who are you? Doug Wilson

Debate fizzles in Grand Terrace
Wilson, one of four candidates for mayor, said the usual candidates forum hosted by the Chamber of Commerce would be too limiting, especially since the person he sees as his main opponent - Councilman Walt Stanckiewitz - will not attend the forum.
When candidate Sally McGuire, president of the Chamber of Commerce, also said she would skip the debate, Wilson called it off.
"(Stanckiewitz's) decision is a confusing about-face given the lecture he delivered to a July 13 council audience where he challenged citizens to `stay involved, participate and listen to what's going on,"' Wilson wrote in a news release. "Apparently public discussion of the issues with the public in attendance is no longer an option."
Stanckiewitz said he had already agreed to meet with some residents in their house at 6 p.m., the proposed debate time.
"I can't believe he wants to talk about issues six days before the election," Stanckiewitz said. "People know what my message is, what I think the issues are. If he needs to discuss the issues, then he'd better get going."
Stanckiewitz has said he believes it is a conflict of interest for incumbents to participate in Chamber of Commerce events because the city partially funds the organization.
McGuire said she looked forward to the chamber forum, but had too busy of a schedule to attend a debate without Stanckiewitz.
DeDe Sternberg, the fourth candidate for mayor, said she would be happy to attend. But Wilson said the debate needed "the main players" to be worthwhile.
Gramp Adds:
Walt Stanckiewitz has been actively meeting with the public and the problem with the Wilson Debate and Venue is, it offers a limited forum and space for the public to actually participate. Walt's in home meetings with citizens allow for citizens to ask their own questions, and there are no time limits, so all issues and concerns can be discussed in full detail. Mr. Wilson, Walt Stanckiewitz does not need to be your opening act. The community is well aware of where he stands on the issues. Your press releases and Candidate Statements have also made it clear where you stand.
