Richard Loder is not my pick for City Council HOWEVER

Richard Loder is a person who may have additional attributes and personal situation that should be brought out into the light of day. Many emails have been received regarding Richard. I addressed the issues in the email with him. He was kind and open with each answer. I will not use the tone of the harshest emails to color his answers as the answers on their own say a lot about Richard.

Although it is clear I support Bernardo Sandoval for the seat you are running for, I do think you would fit on a council of Stanckiewitz, Sandoval, Robles, Garcia and Loder. Having that in mind, I received the following in an email. I did not post as it was not supported with a name of all the people they were writing about nor were they providing proof of the statements. Are you unemployed, collecting unemployment at the same time as having a business? How big is your business? Do you have machines in City Owned or Leased properties such as the City Hall, Fire Station, or Senior Center or Senior Housing?
These are tough questions but they are being asked and you should know that and have an opportunity to be prepared to answer them.

Typical Email
Our fair city has an interesting group of want-a-be politicians running for Mayor and council seats. Among them is a deceptive individual, who in my humble opinion is a self serving, self promoting person who only wants what is beneficial to him, rather than the citizens of Grand Terrace. Passing himself off as a business owner, he has a few vending machines, most of which were procured on the coattails of former Assistant City Manager Steve Berry. Richard Loder is an unemployed elitist, who believes that being with the the " IN CROWD'' is the only way to go. A vote for Mr Loder would be the wrong vote for responsible representation of our city.

Gramps,

I appreciate the opportunity to respond, if for nothing else to make you aware of what I am about and where I am coming from.

First and most important I am not a want-a-be politician, I happen to be quite the opposite, I am a loyal and dedicated citizen of Grand Terrace who feels his experience and input can help both this city and it's residents.

Second I am unemployed and actively looking for employment on a daily basis as are thousands of workers across the state of California. I do receive unemployment assistance, The EDD is aware of my position as a co-owner of a registered LLC. I receive no salary, bonus or compensation. My roll in this Limited Liability Company or R&C Vending is primarily administrative. Our tax returns for the last two years will show a large financial loss because of the original purchase in 2008 and a profit of $69.00 for 2009.

The company was never intended to compensate a full time salary for many years down the road. That being said my business pays fees to the City of Grand Terrace. It pays sales tax and many operating fees to the state of California and donates regularly to various non-profit organizations in the Inland Empire including, Cub scouts, The Sheriffs dept, Breast Cancer awareness, toys for tots, and the Salvation Army. Because of these taxes, fees and donations I strongly feel I have earned the right to call myself a business owner.

R&C Vending owns machines throughout the Inland Empire. I currently own one soda machine at the Blue Mountain Villas, inside the community room, there were no coattails involved, I knew this building was being constructed , Steve Berry was acting City Manager, I went and asked who should I talk to about the need for soda machines. The entire arrangement was between myself and representatives from Corporation for better housing.

I also own a machine at the Grand Terrace Day Care Center. This location was secured by myself when I had heard that the center was unhappy with their current vendor. I have contacted the FPPC regarding this situation and have decided and discussed with the Director of the Daycare that If I am to win a council seat I will donate the machine to the center to help with their activities.

To finish let's just state that "In Crowd" must mean the many volunteers who donate many personal hours every day to make sure soccer happens every week or the hours myself and many others invest into cub scouts or the many hours donated to assist Terrace View Elementary with performances and school plays, if this is the "In crowd" being referred to?

Then I am honored to be considered one of the "In Crowd".
Thanks for taking the time to care.
Richard Loder.

Received and well stated. I will send it to the person who emailed me to see if it will help. I agree 100 percent that the youth and younger adults in the community should have a voice on the council. You no doubt know I am against Fireworks, and will support all other forms of fund raising. Would you like any or all of this posted, comming from you may be better then the rummor mill. The blog tries to stick to what people have said out of their own mouths or pens. Or facts of public record.

Gramps,

I appreciate the fairness, you have come across as a cool cat today and for that, thanks. As for the response, it is yours to do with as you may, I would like to keep it in the bank for now, but this is your site and I respect that, I trust you, besides if you think it will help my chances hell yeah (wink wink). Have a great weekend. And don't forget.... Loder for council.

I have to post... I hope you get it that I think it is better to be honest than let the truth get to be something it isn't... because it was left untold.

In conclusion or added information. Richard Loder's parents have been long time members of the Lion's Club. If people are voting out of loyalty to Richards Parents, that is not something he has control over. It is often misguided to judge a person by who his parents are, or judge parents by how their adult children act. Let's hope this is not the basis upon which the voters of Grand Terrace will make their selection. It is a form of nepotism that is not fair to Mr. Loder.

Many people in Grand Terrace are unemployed or underemployed right now. Keeping busy with community activities helps keep unemployed people in a positive mind set for prospective employers when they interview. Mr. Loder may have a respect for the potential question this City Council will have to face. Do We Layoff and re-hire employees in the top income brackets if they will work full time for less, or do we lay off hourly workers. Those working for above the Median Income of the City should have their contracts reduced and still work full time, or seek employment where they can be afforded.

If Mr. Loder had a long range goal of running for City Council that is actually a good thing. Anyone who has done it knows it takes time and effort to get to know enough people and enough about the communities needs in order to be an effective council member.

It may seem I am saying all nice things about Mr. Loder. You may ask do I now support him.

No I don't. I don't think he has spent enough of his time looking into and understanding the real management practices of the past administrations of Grand Terrace in his two year preparation time. He chose the activities that are community building fun, but did not focus on the glue or the finances and contracts that keep the community running. We need to fix the Financial Ills prior to fixing the community funk, that are addressed by activities, like being a Parent in a School Play, Active with Scouts, and other service clubs and activities. These activities are great, but if we are broke we can't enjoy them. They are secondary to the needs of GT right now.

We need do both kind of people in Grand Terrace. We need more parents and citizens involved in the schools, and other activities in community building. That is why I could support him being appointed to a City Council with Walt as Mayor, Sandoval, Robles, Garcia and Loder as Council Members. BUT. I believe for the protection of the Citizens Interest that should Walt not be elected mayor, a council with Fill in a Name for Mayor, Sandoval, Robles, Garcia and Stanckiewits would be better for Grand Terrace.

So Richard, I hope you keep on working building the community and service organizations regardless of the outcome of the election. I also hope you find full time employment soon as unemployment is difficult for the head of a household. With our high cost of living in Grand Terrace it must be difficult for you and many others in our community.

Hope you lose... the election...

Gramps.

PS... I have no way of getting my pick for the 5th Man on the Council. But if you recall on Star Trak the Fifth Man never got to do a second show...... hmmmm
