GRAND TERRACE - Candidates from all camps are criticizing anonymous fliers that appeared on cars and doorways on a recent weekend, saying they contained several misrepresentations and bigoted attacks.

The two-sided fliers contain numerous facts and assertions about mayoral candidate and Councilman Walt Stanckiewitz and City Council candidates Bernardo Sandoval and Sylvia Robles, but what bothered Stanckiewitz most was that the flier mentioned he was born in Germany and only lived in Grand Terrace for six months before joining the council.

"It's an appeal to the older generation that might be World War II vets, (implying) I must be a Nazi," said Stanckiewitz, who was born on an American army base in Germany.

Robles said she didn't see a racial component, but she did criticize the fliers as cowardly and false.

"I just feel it's the lowest form of campaigning, if you can call it that, when you have people hiding in the middle of the night, unwilling to be public with who they are," she said.

Small print identifies the fliers with "Citizens for a Better Government," but no group by that name seems to exist.

All candidates who could be reached criticized the distributor.

"I absolutely did not do this," said Doug Wilson, another candidate for mayor. "I do not agree with this kind of tactic. Anything I do is right in your face."

He also said Stanckiewitz's place of birth was irrelevant.

Tom Schwab, a candidate for City Council who has publicly sparred with the candidates on the flier, also said criticized the signs.

"I don't believe in negative campaigning of any sort," he said. "If you've got to belittle other people, then you don't belong on the council."

Often chided for working behind the keyboard of anonymity there is a difference between the blog and those fliers. The blog puts in print or on the blog the issues and documents provided to the City Council or City Hall or items in the Printed News. Names of the Citizens who first brought the document or issue is available in Public Record at City Hall. So what happens here is that the City Council or others who are bothered by the blog are bothered because the issues that were normally just mentioned one time and then buried in Council Minutes or in some file are here on the blog for easy and free citizen access.

The Sign "Don't Get Stung By Bea" was posted on the blog after the name of the producer and action was known.

The flier on the other hand, with denials from Wilson, and now Schwab now toss suspicion onto Bea Cortes. She of course is not available for comment to the press. Then there are the other candidates running too. However, it is odd that the words and images used are those normally used to describe Tom Schwab. "Horse Trading" was how the CBH owner described the contract management for the construction of the Blue Mt. Senior Villas... A contract by Tom Schwab. The spending of RDA money improperly, is a Schwab issue and so forth. So Mr. Schwab's denial of participation in the "Signs" may be that he is saying he has nothing to do with the Bea Signs, or perhaps he was just confused about the difference between a sign and a flier.

Tom Schwab has not denied that any of his supporters or friends designed and distributed the flier. It is very similar to words Mr. Hickey, Tom Schwab, and Doug Wilson have written in the Grand Terrace City News. However, the flier added a few sharp twists to their words, that at least in the above denial of responsibility the themselves find offensive and foul. In addition Mr. Schwab as City Manager has belittled citizens who bring issues to the City Council during Council Meetings. In particular when he was asked to properly identify "Reserves" as Debt Funds he was rude to the speakers. Saying: you just don't understand financial reports , you don't know anything about accounting". Turns out Mr. Schwabs report were not clear to the Council Members, and he did not know how to account for redlight fees, and taxes as starters. So his claim to political piety is a bit far fetched.

Bea Cortes has hired Chris Jones as a spokes person and he has a reputation for very dirty politics but there is no way to know if he is or isn't party to that flier being produced and distributed. It is unlikely that he would be walking the streets after midnight. Given her acceptance of campaign donations from Mr Jacobsen and Friends, and the discrepancy between her form 700 and her divorce declaration her political piety hardly measures up to any sort of credible standards. In addition her wanting or deserving a better home than the one she has in Grand Terrace, as she should be entitled to the better things in life she had grown accustom to, indicates a deep seated dislike for Grand Terrace and its citizens.

McNaboe, McGuire, Loder, Sternberg, were they asked by the press is they had anything to do with the flier's. In one email report it was 2 women who were doing the leg work of distribution one of the nights. None of them have sent an email to the blog so there is no way of even offering a denial written by them.

I know who I am voting for... It is not Wilson, McGuire, Sternberg, Cortes, Schwab, Loder, or McNaboe. My selection has nothing to do with the flier. It has to do with who do I think is more earnest about getting the cities finances under control, the contract managed properly, and yes projects properly managed. I am not voting because some one will be nice or is good looking or comes from this or that culture. I am not voting because some one is in my Club or Social Group.

I will vote for Stanckiewitz - Robles - Sandoval because I feel they will get the Cities Finances under control and will then be able to position the city to move forward, in a well managed and properly accounted for way.
