Ugly Politics... How did it get this bad.

Citizens are expressing a fatigue with the election just 3 weeks away. In the Grand Terrace City News one asked how did it get so bad, why is it so ugly, why the character assignation?

Well, citizens/voters you are in part responsible for the situation. Grand Terrace has been absent active citizens in sufficient number participating in the management and administration of its governance. In part this was by design in that information was not readily available to citizens prior to decisions. In part because citizens want to believe that everything is going fine without the need for them to be involved in the month to month, year to year dealings with their City. In part because local news papers do not do a good job covering the local politics on a regular basis.

It is this very fog of complacency that allows problems to sprout and grow into humongous repeated problems that compound one on top of another. It is also a environment where the human ego can be inflated by self importance and greed. Left unchecked for 10, to 20 , 30 years and you have Grand Terrace Today.

This election is like getting a new roof put on your house. The process is messy, loud and quite frankly one none of us look forward to. But, when you need a new roof you need a new roof. It is better it get done, messy as it is or the house under it will rot away and crumble.

So you are being offered a new roof, or a tarp over the old roof. What will it be Voters? It is up to you.
