You may want to read about how more cars will be traveling through Grand Terrace faster, or at least more efficiently. This is intended not to increase business but to increase traffic flow.

A true shorter commute would result if people could live and work closer to where they live. Sustainable Communities provide for employment in the community where people live. Housing prices should be available for all levels of employment compensation within the city.

So while I am not against the savings in time and fuel that improved signals will bring, but the idea that it is a "shorter commute" is only a half truth. It certainly is going to have an impact on Grand Terrace, when more cars find that Barton Road is a better option than the freeway. Barton Road will become more of a barrier to walking, and the use of LEV's in our town. No I am not sure this is progress. Progress would be cutting the number of commute miles by 14 percent or more. Now that would be radical.
