Can Grand Terrace Sponsor the Band? A thought.

Band Seeks Community and Members

The Main Street Community Band, is alive and is always looking for a few good musicians.

There are only about 2,000 community bands in the U.S. Some are based at colleges, some are sponsored by their cities. The Main Street Community Band is actually looking for an interested city to sponsor the band.

The old-fashioned band's repertoire includes marches, novelty tunes, Broadway musical selections, overtures, orchestra transcriptions, solo and section features, tone poems and contemporary 20th century wind band literature.

The current band rehearsals run from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Wednesdays, April 6 through June 8 in the Performing Arts Building, Room 125, at Cal State San Bernardino, 5500 University Parkway.

The community music ensemble provides a cultural and performing experience for high school, college and adult musicians with at least three years of playing experience.

The musicians young and old also serve as ambassadors to the city.

This Years Performances have included: Chaffey Community Band of Ontario Ca's. "Merry-Go-Round of Community Bands, Performances at the Annual Western Days supporting CID in San Bernardino, a traditional Christmas Concert in December for residents and guests at Plymouth Village Redlands, and a program of patriotic music for veterans last weekend at the Jerry Petta VA Hospital in Loma Linda.

Future concerts include a Mother's Day Potpourri at Maurice Carrie Winery in Temecula and a program of Hollywood soundtrack tunes, including music from "Superman," "Indiana Jones" and "The Pink Panther" on June 3 at Cal State San Bernardino.

The cost of the band registration is $35. For more information, call the College of Extended Learning, (909) 537-5981, or visit http://cel.csusb.edu/. Parking is not included in the registration fee.
