School Board and Long Range Plans

From the Email Inbox: OUR SCHOOL BOARD
Thursday's Colton School Board Meeting looks to be volatile.
Thursday April 20th, 2006
The school board has agendized a discussion of the Superintendent's and Bloomington High School's Principal (Ignacio Cabrera's) performance.
This is usually a preliminary step before termination. The discussion will take place in closed session. The community will be able to speak in open session. Since this is a closed session item you can show up at 5:30 and request to speak before the board goes into closed session. You can also speak again during the open session after 7:00. Please come out to support both of these men.
The Agenda also includes:A layoff notice for 14 classified employees (mostly instructional Aides) with another 4 classified employees losing hours.A new board policy to increase the required monetary reserve from 3% to 5% and give power to the Assistant Supt. of Business on hiring decisions that would require deficit spending. (We must lay people off and we cannot afford a raise for our teachers but we can add an additional $3 million dollars to our reserves- THIS MAKES NO SENSE)
Under Study and Information the board will be discussing extending their terms by a year by switching to even year elections
.Plus this past Monday the district had a special board meeting to discuss HS #3 and we found out that it will 2009 (pushed back another year) before H.S. 3# can be ready (they will vote to go to eminent domain this Thursday to take the remaining pieces of property).
Just to keep things interesting, I was informed that the teacher's union are only being offered a 1% raise when Rialto teachers recently settled for 3.5% and Fontana received 4.5% raise. Teachers are mad, classified employees are mad, the community is mad, and its going to be a mad, mad, mad meeting!
To top it off we are still not dealing with drop out problem. If they brought back 200 of the approximately 1000 yearly drop outs it would bring in $1.4 million dollars of additional revenue and we wouldn't have to lay-off classified employees and we could afford to give a raise to our teachers.
It would take those kids off the streets and reduce crime saving the community money, but instead we will get to hear the board members talk about saving $50,000 dollars by adding an extra year to their terms. We do not need an extra year of Zamora, Albiso, Armenta, Hoover, Taylor, Mendoza-Ware and Ibarra. They could save the same $50,000 by bringing back 8 drop outs.
The meeting will be: Thursday, April 20, 2006

Jacobsen thinks that 400 mailers in support of Lowes Speaks for the PUBLIC
The fliers had no where to vote no for the project, that tells me almost 4000 went in the trash. (There are 4401 residences in Grand Terrace)
Because Jacobsen did not have a place for a NO vote the mailers went into the TRASH.
