The NEW: "GRAND TERRACE CITY NEWS"
The recent acquisition of the newspaper "THE GRAND TERRACE CITY NEWS" by Marge Miller has finally given the citizens of this community a voice. (Not to be confused with this blogsite) The "Voice Of The People" section is exactly that. It is the golden opportunity to sound off about what is going on in this city. Unlike the Chamber of Commerce newspaper that the City supports financially and allows no opinion other than the Cities management, the Chamber's and their social circle. I'm tired of seeing the same faces every month slapping each other on the back and telling the community what great people they are and what a wonderful job they are doing. I'm tired of the City propaganda that will not tell the whole truth about projects planned here.
Now we have a newspaper that will give both sides of the story. A newspaper that will tell the community when there are two shooting in two days.(Feb.24Th and Feb 25Th) The Press Enterprise and the Sun did not even carry the stories and the Chamber paper put it in such small print you would easily overlook it. It was in the crime reports and at that they are not consistence in the reporting. An informed public is a safer public. Some on the Council do not want any crime reporting done. It would hurt property (Terra Loma Reality) values.
Being a small community we are aware of the personal attacks on the Millers by some in City Hall and a self described "developer" on the Chamber. Although no one has been able to find anything he has developed. Unless film counts.
So on Friday morning when you see this free newspaper on your driveway pick it up, read it and become informed. Mr. Miller and Mrs Miller are good, decent people. Jim Miller is an honest Councilman and pays the price for it at Council meetings. The City management goes out of "his" way to keep Councilman Miller uninformed as the good Councilman stated a few meeting ago with his statement that "He was tired of coming into Council meeting and not being informed by the City Manager when all the other Council members had the documents that were relevant to the issue being discussed. Some of the Council it would make no difference if they are informed or not. Because when they are informed they are still not informed. This is easily seen when they ask questions of the City manager that they should be able to answer if they had any idea of what was going on outside of their social circle. It is one thing to be called Mayor because it looks good on a caption beneath a picture and at social gatherings and to actually being a Mayor that can answer a question from the public at a Council meeting. We have one and not the other.
